Why can't BOINC run projects on the Intel GPUs that come integrated with motherboards? Many of us have these and would like to use them for computing. |

BOINC 7.0.42 and above support running OpenCL on Intel HD Graphics. Thus far, at the time of writing, only Ivy Bridge CPUs with the HD Graphics 2500 and 4000 are capable of running OpenCL, the earlier Sandy Bridge with HD Graphics 2000 and 3000 are not capable. But that is just BOINC supporting the capability. Now you need a project that made a science application capable of running on those GPUs and so far there aren't any. |

When will BOINC support Sandy Bridge GPUs (which is what I have in my machine)? |

Aside from BOINC getting the full detection and support, you also need the project owners to port/compile/test for Intel-on-CPU GPU, and when these projects don't have OpenCL [GPUgrid e.g. is only CUDA], what would one bring as sales pitch to get them to port to the SB/IB GPU? And Desktop sales keep falling... what will that do to BOINC world, but branching out to handhelds [android based e.g. which are not exactly powerhouses in crunching];) Coelum Non Animum Mutant, Qui Trans Mare Currunt |

When will BOINC support Sandy Bridge GPUs (which is what I have in my machine)? Simple: Never, If Intel doesn't give Sandy Bridge GPUs OpenCL support, Boinc will never support Sandy Bridge GPUs. Claggy |

When will BOINC support Sandy Bridge GPUs (which is what I have in my machine)? Sandy Bridge GPUs don't have OpenCL support, so the only thing that you can then do with that GPU is attach a monitor to it. |

Really?!! Stupid me I just assumed they would have OpenCL. Well then it's hopeless. Ubiquitous as they are or may become they'll never crunch a BOINC task. |

Hello all, Even though my Win 7 64-bit SP1 rig has i7-3770, neither BOINC 7.0.42 nor 7.0.44 recognize its HD Graphics 4000. Could you, please, advice where can I find a help for setting it correctly? Thanks in advance and cheers :-) For Science and Shrubberies! Since January 13 2000. ![]() |

Unfortunately, when I tried to install the latest driver from the link you posted, I got the Error message saying, that my computer does not meet the minimal system requirements :-( Thanks anyway and cheers :-) For Science and Shrubberies! Since January 13 2000. ![]() |

is this a desktop computer or a laptop? Any specific brand, like Sony, Dell, Lenovo, etc.? Were the motherboard chipset drivers already installed? Do you know what brand and model motherboard you have? |

Desktop, not a specific brand: i7-3770 3.4 GHz, Mobo ASUS P8Z77-V LX, 60 GB SSD (have 16+GB free ATM), 8 Giga RAM. AFAIK, all mobo chipset drivers were already installed. Cheers :-) For Science and Shrubberies! Since January 13 2000. ![]() |

What if you run the Intel driver detection tool at http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect ? What it could also be is that according to this thread at Anandtech your motherboard has the Intel H67 chipset, not the full Z77 chipset. The H67 chipset may not be fully compatible with the i7-3770S, i7-3770K and i7-3770 processors. |

It appears that the Boinc community is under the false impression that OpenCL is an AMD technology developed specifically for AMD GPUs. Any Intel core CPU (including core 2 *) is capable of doing OpenCL; and if Boinc doesn't realize that, it's a Boinc bug. As of the project their task is to only provide OpenCL capable binaries; they are hardly concerned if the hardware's ATI or Intel. |

As I said elsewhere, BOINC doesn't need to detect if the CPU is OpenCL capable. It already detects the CPU, which is all the information a project needs to send you the correct application (be it 32bit or 64bit). So they should be able to see if your CPU is OpenCL capable, if they need to. It appears that the Boinc community is under the false impression that OpenCL is an AMD technology developed specifically for AMD GPUs. Easily countered. Just check http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/apps.php and http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/apps.php to see that we don't think that. However, it's also understandable, since you see all these ati_opencl_* applications and not many nvidia_opencl_* or opencl-intel_gpu applications. Although they are there. This is because Nvidia is still maintaining and improving their CUDA technology, while AMD has given up on their CAL technology and embraced OpenCL. So yes, you will see OpenCL being used on a lot of AMD GPGPUs. |

Presuming OpenCL support was available for an Intel GPU, and one had a separate discrete video card installed for display, do you think the unused Intel GPU could still be available to a potential BOINC project? Just curious, because there must be many of these. |
