Most computers in our lab are turned on 24h but most users log out when they leave the computer. I'd like to run BOINC while the login screen (Windows XP) is showing. BOINC was set as the screen saver in the registry, it starts but doesn't compute. I assume that XP prevents BOINC from accessing the project files. I did not find any solution for this problem. Any ideas? Thanks in advance! |

You could (re)install BOINC in Protected Application Execution mode (aka service install). See also the thread Service install = Protected Application Execution mode in the "Questions and problems" section. Gruß, Gundolf Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. (Kleiner Scherz)

Thanks! Just had to remove BOINC, reinstall it and now it works on all computers. Perhaps it would be a good idea to include this option/question in some FAQ, I saw the option before but the information is a bit misleading. I assumed that this option is for users who don't have administrator rights. |

Thanks for all the information! I have to admit that I simply didn't know the full meaning of "install BOINC as a service". |
