I have installed the updated version of ubuntu (8.4) on a differnt partition to conserve 7.10 for backup. If you installed from the repositories, the boinc data dir is /var/lib/boinc-client and the global prefs, rpc auth and remote hosts files are in /etc/boinc-client Make sure boinc is stopped when copying the files. It would be a good idea to suspend all projects and network connectivity before stopping the client. That way if anything does go wrong when you start up in the new environment, you will not communicate it to the project servers and can happily recover. |

this seems to have copied over my settings but not the half finished WUs bit of a bind as i was 80% on a CPDN that had been running a couple of months |

this seems to have copied over my settings but not the half finished WUs Did you get everything, including contents of subdirectories? Make sure there's sufficient space in the destination too. Try this: ( cd /path/to/7.10/var/lib/boinc-client; sudo tar cvf - . ) | ( cd /path/to/8.04/var/lib/boinc-client; sudo tar xvf - ) |

after all the copying boinc wouldn't run atall, (well the client would run but wasent doing anything and the manager run at all) i rebooted back into 7.10 set everything to no more tasks and within 24 hours everything was finished, it seems the CPDN unit was closer to finished than i remembered... i then deleted the settings in 8.4 purged the client and manager then reinstalled to get a working client back, attatched to my projects (the new list in the attach wizard is very usefull) and am back up and running! |
