Apparently the new Linux version, both the x86 and the x64-version require libstdc++.so.6, to run the boinc_manager.
However, SuSe 9.2 (at least mine) doesn't have libstdc.++.so.6, it has .5 and .7.
The BOINC-version uptil 5.10.28_i686 did not have this requirement.
So, either a BOINC version is developed for Linux that doesn't require libstdc++.so.6 to run the manager or I'm sticking with 5.10.28.
PS: Apparently, the 5.10.28-script didn't even have a boinc_manager on board.

It may be as simple as creating a 'fake' symlink as libstdc++.so.6 pointing to libstdc++.so.

Both the x64_64 as the i686-version of 5.10.45 I downloaded have 'ubuntu' in its filename. I can't see any non-ubuntu 5.10.45's. Tried both, both said they needed the .so.6.
I'm running quadruple boot. I have XP on one (physical) disc, and three Linuxes on another (physical) disc. They are: SuSe 9.2, SuSe 9.2 and Kubuntu Feisty Fawn. Both SuSe's have their /home on separate partitions, Feisty is just one. I noticed a .so.6 in Feisty's partition( I can access all /home's from each OS, except XP (of course). I copied the .so.6-files from Feisty, but that brought along a whole bunch of other error messages that brought me no further so I deleted them. (on the SuSe-side). Can't install on Feisty because if I do that I can't run them from my two SuSe's. I can run 5.10.28 perfectly from all three Linuxes. So, I doubt the fake symlink-trick will work, but I'm still very much a newbie on Linux, even through I've been running it for more than a year now (IIRC).

BOINC doesn't really require it. Just the official binaries do.

The official Linux binaries aren't guaranteed to run everywhere. Linux distributions are encouraged to make their own packages.

The non-"Ubuntu" ones don't have BOINC Manager, because compiling the manager in a way that runs on a varied amount of Linux distros is way too hard. What you got is probably the "compatible" build: runs in many more systems than the 'ubuntu' build but doesn't have the manager.

I think it would be good to build a repository also for OpenSuse. We have tested some versions compiled by a team member for OpenSuse 10.3 and development version 11.0 alpha/beta1.

Just tried 5.10.45. Installs and runs fine on and older Debian box with a 2.4 kernel. But on a 2.6.19 kernel Debian machine, it installs ok, but dies instantly with this message:

./boinc: /lib/tls/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.4' not found (required by ./boinc)

Update:
After getting onsite and looking these 2 machines over, the problem isn't kernel version, but rather 5.10.45 will not run on the current stable Debian release...a known issue. The apparent solution from other threads? Switch your Linux distro. <snicker> yeah, right... back to 5.8.16 we go.

We will see how 5.10.45 works in Debian unstable and testing or newest Knoppix version 5.3.1.

Now, here ist a third .torrent, for the 64 Bit OpenSuse 10.2 .sh-file from rechenaugust.de, I only changed the name. The versions for 10.3/11.0 will not run on 10.2.
