Hello there. I have 2 desktops. Desktop #1 is running BOINC well. Desktop #2 is not running BOINC well. Both desktops use Linux Mint 22.1 with Mate and are fully updated, including the most recent BOINC version. Regarding Desktop #2, I tried the following: - WCG - Einstein - LHC - MilkyWay - Asteroids - Climate Prediction What happens is I either get a "Failed to Add Project" message, or . . . I add the project, go to "Projects" and select "Update" then receive the following message: "Communication deferred" Why is this happening and how do I fix it? If this happened to only 1 or 2 projects, then I wouldn't be concerned. However, this is happening to every project I select on Desktop #2. |

Any clue if you click on tools>event log? Also CPDN will not send work unless you have 28 GB of RAM free. |

In reply to whore's message of 16 Apr 2026: I add the project, go to "Projects" and select "Update" then receive the following message:Communication is always deferred after attempting contact with the Scheduler. Depending on the Project, if you make contact it will be deferred for 30 seconds, or 2minutes (or whatever the project sets for it's default). If you fail to make contact with the Scheduler, then initially it will wait for the Projects default settings. For each following failure the interval will increase, up to 48 hours it think it is. If you make a successful scheduler contact, then it will defer for the projects default minimum (30sec, 2min or whatever) once again. Grant Darwin NT. |

Remove WCG as it's having issues. Use boinccmd if the client will not remove it. Delete the project folder and WCG files from data folder if you have to. BOINC is just dumb and single threaded when it comes to communicating with projects. If it's stuck updating/communicating with one project it WILL NOT move on to the next. Even if the client has zero work to do, more project updates will not complete to get work. I had a client stuck on SoDock and would not get additional work from another until I just flat out detached SiDock. I've seen the same exact problem several times. Maybe its the same for you. |

I have never seen this issue even when I have several project in the list that are not active anymore. BOINC maintainer. For any insight, check my BOINC Development Blog. |
