I’m running BOINC Manager 8.2.8 on a 2022 MacBook Air with Tahoe 26.1. The other day I noticed that the amount of free space on my HD had gone down dramatically. After some digging around I found the culprit was the podman-machine-default-arm64.raw, located in HD/Library/Application Support/BOINC podman/containers/podman/machine/applehv. The file is currently 107.37 gb. My computer tries to open the file in Photoshop, but can’t because there isn’t enough room on the scratch disks. I uninstalled BOINC, deleted the BOINC podman folder, and reinstalled, but the file came back and remains the same size. I’ve used BOINC for 20 years and have never seen anything like this.

What does this file do? Why is it this size? What can I do about it? Thanks for your help!

Use an older version w/o that junk?

I thought we had to install that for BOINC Central to work.

8.0.4 or maybe 8.2.1 if you can find them.

Podman is still optional, so if you don't want - you don't need to install it even on 8.2.8 version of BOINC.
BOINC maintainer.
