I’m planning on stopping by my local public library to show them BOINC. Has anyone tried that? Libraries with computer banks for the public should have a lot of idle cycles for BOINC. |

Wish you luck with that. * In the U S. most public library computer systems are managed by the township/cities I.T. department and they generally don't want anything other than the pre-approved list of applications to run on their computer systems, ESPECIALLY something like BOINC that connects to the Internet. Something else is a lot of U.S. libraries computer systems are set up with a program called DEEP-FREEZE that automatically reset the computer to a previous known "good state" and wipes harddisk at reboot or preset intervals. |

It would probably be a better idea to print/make some flyers which you could ask if the library allows to have lying on their desk. Such a flyer could explain in simple terms what Boinc is and how it works, so people would get interested in running it at home. I also doubt that libraries would allow foreign programs to run on their computers. |
