Win10 Home, 10.0.19045, BOINC 7.24.1 (Win 64), VirtualBox v7.0.14, GTX 1660Ti - running asteroids@home, einstein@home, rosetta@home and milkyway@home.

Sometime in the last week, instead of displaying the project's screensaver, BOINC started displaying a console window

which is suggesting in the last few lines an inability to find an executable. Sometimes, the screensaver does not close on mouse or keyboard until I Ctrl-Alt-Del and then ESC to return to the desktop, without subsequently doing anything else.

Based on the text, I presume this is something to do with Rosetta but, frankly, I don't know where to start diagnosing this. The BOINC log appears clean but I can't seem to find a way to copy the contents for inclusion here. According to the Tasks and Statistics tabs, projects are progressing, particularly Rosetta.

Any wise counsel?

Looks to me like Rosetta starts its tasks through that console window, and as you say, it can't find a certain executable. Maybe the graphics executable.
Not really a BOINC problem, but a project problem. Have you tried looking it up on their forums, or reporting it there?
What happens when you close the console window, does the task continue to run, or does it err?
If you look in the \projects\boinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta directory in your BOINC Data directory, does it have that rosetta executable and is it an exe file? Is it the right version number for the tasks app?

Had a quick look at the project's message board and there has been no mention of any similar issues. In fact, there very little movement on the board at all. I'm considering removing or suspending the Rosetta project from the rotation to see if that isolates the problem. I'll advise.
[Edit] The problem disappears after suspending the project in BOINC.
[Edit 2] I was mistaken. After a little more research, I found the problem had already been reported on the Rosetta community forum https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/forum_thread.php?id=15230&postid=108978#108978. Only 3 of us though 🤔

The console window closes on its own accord if it doesn't hang the screensaver, thus it was difficult to get a screenshot of it. Fortunately, I can reproduce the console and its effect using the Preview button on the Windows screensaver dialog. BOINC continues to run and the Rosetta tasks appear to do so as well.

If you look [...] in your BOINC Data directory, does it have that rosetta executable and is it an exe file?
Yes. In fact, there are 6 (all are *_windows_x86_64.exe):
    1. minirosetta_3.78 dated 27 May 2020
    2. minirosetta_graphics_3.78 dated 27 May 2020
    3. rosetta_4.20 dated 3 May 2020
    4. rosetta_graphics_4.20 datad 3 May 2020
    5. rosetta_beta_6.04 dated 4 Dec 2023
    6. rosetta_graphics_6.04 dated 4 Dec 2023

Under the Tasks tab and the Application column, the listed application is Rosetta Beta 6.04. I presume the .exes from 2020 are unnecessary.

Years and dates on executables just mean they haven't changed in years and are still doing correct work for that application. If the project deems them unnecessary, the project will remove them automatically and replace them with newer versions. The 6.04 application is a beta application, so I would expect the developers to be more active on getting reports in of problems with it or any part of the application.
