Rumors on X: Multiple sources report that Keir Starmer is expected to resign as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom within the next few hours.

Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy will serve as interim Prime Minister.

A Labour leadership contest is now expected.

I guess it's not going to happen anytime soon.
Will Starmer resign over Mandelson-Epstein scandal and who could replace him?
Labour MPs have questioned the prime ministers judgement, with some declaring ‘it’s over’ for Starmer

My bet is after the May local elections but given my previous experience at the bookies, it won't be a large bet! I notice the Greens are favourites with the bookmakers for the by-election despite the Greens' own figures from knocking on doors putting Reform ahead.

Dutch authorities allegedly seize VPN server without a warrant

Will be interesting to see what, if anything they can recover...

THIS IS NOT A DRILL: The Dutch authorities, without a warrant, just seized one of our VPN servers saying they'll give it back after they "fully analyze it". The UK Ministry of Justice has ordered the deletion of the UK's largest court reporting archive. Courtsdesk, a platform launched to improve media access to magistrates' court data has been ordered to delete its archive of records by David Lammy's Ministry of Justice.

According to Courtsdesk, the platform has since been used by more than 1,500 journalists from 39 media organisations and the data provided has highlighted serious failures in the courts system. It said journalists were given no advance notice of 1.6 million criminal hearings, the number of court cases listed was accurate on just 4.2 per cent of sitting days and half a million weekend cases were heard with no notification to the press.

In November, HM Courts and Tribunal Service issued the company a cessation notice, citing what it called "unauthorised sharing" of court data, on the basis of a test feature, claiming this was a "data protection issue."
Enda Leahy, the Courtsdesk chief executive said: "We built the only system that could tell journalists what was actually happening in the criminal courts.
We wrote 16 times asking for dialogue. Last week we got our answer: delete everything. If the government were interested in open justice, they would engage in a dialogue."

Sir Keir Starmer has revealed plans for a host of new internet restrictions in a bid to "protect children online".

The Prime Minister declared last night he would move to implement a set of new bans to block young people from accessing "harmful" parts of the internet.

Under his proposals, young people will be blocked from using VPNs to access pornography.

Restrictions on children interacting with AI "chatbots" are also being considered.
It starts with the young, then it'll be the elder who also need to be restricted. He's saying that as well:
"Today, we are closing loopholes that put children at risk, and laying the groundwork for further action."
And of course, block social media. Bye UK-blokes, soon you'll only be able to talk on government approved channels, about government approved subjects. The EU is trying to input that for the rest of us Europeans as well.

I will wait to hear the details before assuming GB fakeNews have got this right. Interestingly, parties to the Right of Labour want it to happen even more quickly describing the consultation process as delay.

It will also be interesting to see how effective this is. I suspect a lot of teenagers will find their way around the ban. I don't know how many in Australia are managing it.

US President Ronald Reagan said it best: "I'm from the government and I'm here to help you."
* He used this phrase during a speech in 1986 to illustrate his belief that government intervention often does more harm than good. The phrase has since become emblematic of skepticism toward government aid.

Investigation launched into claims Labour campaign group hired lobbyists to probe journalists The Sunday Times says Labour Together produced 'deeply personal and false' claims about its journalists after they wrote stories about the thinktank. Unlike the previous topic here where I think the politicians from all parties here are misguided, I am much more worried about the corruption in this one.

Not that things in The Netherlands are so swell.
We're getting a new tax in 2028, that taxes possible profit you make on stocks and crypto. The moment they look at it is always on January 1st and it doesn't matter what happens to the assets afterwards, even if they dramatically drop in value, you will have to pay taxes over the January 1st moment.

Say you buy assets for €10,000 and on a January 1st their worth is €60,000, you'll have to pay 36% over the 50,000 profit, even while those assets are still in your portfolio and you haven't touched them. You may have to sell them to be able to pay the tax over them! The new system, which taxes returns based on the actual increase in the value of assets, is set to take effect in 2028.

Sounds similar to what they want to do in California...
California's Billionaire Tax Battle: Inside The 2026 Showdown Billionaires Maneuver Now in Case Wealth Tax Passes
California residents have made headlines in recent months supporting the one-time five percent wealth tax on its approximately 200 billionaire residents. While the 2026 Billionaire Tax Act has drawn criticisms from many of those who will have to pay the large incremental tax, perhaps the biggest opponent has been California Governor Gavin Newsom, who recently came out in opposition to the proposal. This article discusses the case for the one-time wealth tax as well as outlines why Governor Newsom still believes a case can be made for voting down this proposal.

One time 5% or every year 36% tax on your assets? Hmm, let me think. 😉

It isn't so much the veracity of this particular story but they hype when it is still at the, "may" stage. There have been a whole raft of idiotic decisions by our current government that they have performed U-turns on in the short time they have been in power. Some others, they have been knocked back by the courts. I will judge this one when I see what they actually do and say after the consultation. Sadly the percentage of people who will make a point of responding to the consultation will be very small.

Seeing how Iran is attacking every country around it, probably a good thing they started it.
The apologists wanted to continue talking to this regime, even though their initial statement at the talks was that they had enough fissile material for 11 atomic bombs. Should they have waited for Tel Aviv to see a blinding light and be demolished? This is the regime that just a couple of weeks ago killed at least 30,000 of its own citizens because they were protesting the regime. But go on, talk to those rabid idiots.
