I've participated in BOINC since at least as early as 2010, but have recently run into a severe problem. I cannot install BOINC Client in LinuxMint 19 Cinnamon (which is based on Ubuntu 18.04) because of a conflict: viz., BOINC 7.12.0 appears to require libcurl4, which conflicts with libcurl3. But without libcurl3, I cannot run the R Statistical Language, of which I am a heavy user. I hope there is some way to resolve this dilemma, which surely must affect other R users who would like to participate (or to continue participating) in BOINC. Thank you. |

Perhaps less importance because of the large number of browsers available but the same happens with Opera. Installing one of BOINC and Opera uninstalls the other. I got around this by installing the developer version of Opera which uses libcurl4. The following link shows how to have both installed at once but is a little more involved than just installing developer version was for me so I haven't tested it. https://askubuntu.com/questions/1061431/how-to-have-both-libcurl3-and-libcurl4-installed-at-same-time |

Do prior versions of BOINC require older libcurl versions? Mint 19 and Ubuntu 18.04 have BOINC 7.9 in the repository. |

Where did you get R from? The package in Ubuntu repo depends on libcurl4 as does the package in CRAN repo. |
