Hi, i installed boinc 7.6.6 (x64) in Ubuntu 15.1. I am able to add projects and download tasks just fine, but the tasks run about 20 times slower than they do on my windows computer with similar hardware. (cpu crunching only). Even if I let the tasks run for a whole day they never reach completion. I have the same issue with SAT@home and yafu. Any ideas what the problem is? It is a xeon e5-v3 dual processor on a C612 chipset (asrock rack motherboard). otherwise ubuntu runs fine and is snappy and shows no evidence of a software problem. I am new to ubuntu so even basic things to check are fine.

hi corey welcome to the boinc forum.

Any ideas what the problem is?

hmm no, there's a lot of possibilities, and not a lot of detail to work on.
I don't know anything of those projects and their apps. I think i would start trying some benchmarks / stress tests to verify the health of the system. I might suggest there is this thread - when requesting help

You should see in the event log a basic benchmark run by the boinc client, reporting Dhrystone and Whetstone results. If you have identical hardware the you might compare them.

If you are new to ubuntu - you may not know the odd numbered release 15.X have a very short lifetime. You will find the even numbered X.04 LTS releases have a longer life, usually more stable and are better supported.

Sorry not many answers, but keep digging! Good luck.

Edit: I hate speculating before getting some information but there is known problem with thermald and Xeon E5-1650 v3

# sudo dmidecode -t processor
# thermald --version

would disprove that possibility.
