I run the BOINC client on my Mac. (BOINC manager version 7.6.22, OSX version 10.11.3.) Whenever I don't leave BOINC computation suspended, Time Machine backups don't happen. I'd really like for this sort of issue to go away at some point: I want leave BOINC running but also have the Time Machine backups complete as expected. It appears that TimeMachine won't run when there's /any/ CPU going on at all. I'd like TimeMachine to take precedence over BOINC. Any thoughts? |

What model Mac? FYI I have no issues with time machine making backup on 2 Mac's through at least 4 versions of Mac OSX. I also don't remember any time machine settings it could be. You could set BOINC to consider time machine an exclusive app so it suspends when time machine attempts a backup as a work around. I believe "/System/Library/CoreServices/backupd" is the name of the executable that performs the actual backup, not "timemachine.app". You could also try telling time machine not to back up BOINC. If the backup is scheduled at a fixed time, BOINC time scheduling could be set to pause from for instance 03:00AM to 03:15AM, then in Activity menu set to compute according preferences. Coelum Non Animum Mutant, Qui Trans Mare Currunt |

It appears that the backupd process on my system is: /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd.bundle/Contents/Resources/backupd The file selection dialog in the Exclusive Applications picker in the BOINC manager window has the backupd.bundle greyed out -- can't select it. |
